A content creator who made $5 million from OnlyFans is putting money into a competing platform. Bryce Adams, who makes content, says that this move could be the start of a career in investing.
A creator of adult content for OnlyFans who made more than $5 million (£4.2 million) from the site has decided to leave and put her money into a different site.
Florida-based After Bryce Adams and her boyfriend made a tentative account in January 2021, it quickly became the most-liked page on OnlyFans.
Adams told the Standard, "We started looking at the competition and bought some of their products. We thought we could do this better than they could."
"We did a lot of tests to see what works and what doesn't, and we treated it like a business."
Adams used the money to make a six-figure investment in a competitor called Fanvue, which shows off creators' work in music, art, fashion, and film, as well as content for a more mature audience.
She said, "This is really cool because now they're giving creative people the chance to be a part of the company, which is something I've never seen before." "They want to hear from creators as soon as possible about what features they want to see."
Since the start of the pandemic, OnlyFans has become very popular. The company has paid out millions of pounds to people who make adult content and hired as many as 1,000 people.
Not everyone has been happy with how the company has grown. A BBC investigation from last year found that the platform didn't do enough to stop underage users from selling and being in explicit videos. Adams says that she hopes that moderating the content on Fanvue will be a top priority.
Adams said, "We need to find a real, great solution that will work and can be put into place, not just a temporary band-aid." "I have no doubt that they will be able to do that."
The commitment of $60,000 to the series A funding round is Adams's first big attempt to raise money from venture capitalists. This shows how new technology has made it possible for younger people to make a lot of money while avoiding traditional career paths. Job site Comparably says that content creators make an average of £74,000 a year.
Adams says that the move could be the beginning of a career as an investor.
"If there's a chance to invest, I'll try it. We'll see where that goes; maybe I'll end up investing in more tech businesses or new platforms."
